Gently
resting against the aqua blue edge of Lake Wakatipu is the historic
town of Glenorchy. Built originally by the Scheelite miners of 1862 and
most recently utilized as the stunning imagery of Middle Earth,
Glenorchy and its surrounding areas have come to be meccas for
adventurous trampers and afternoon wanders alike. Just 40km outside of
the hustle and bustle of Queenstown this little village with just over
200 people, is the ideal jumping off place for some of the finest
tramping in the world.
Glenorchy Winter Ball is on its way again, Saturday 26th July is the date, tickets are $30.00, the old favorites "Afterglow" from Queenstown will be playing on the nite, there is a complimentary drink on arrival and happy Hour between 7.30 and 8.30pm. Proceeds go to the new adventure playground.

stoat trap update
Dick Watson is making good use of his grandchildren on one of his regular stoat trap checks.
Making the trips to check the traps, as you can see from the pictures on read more button, is paying off for the sponsors of the locally initiated Stoat Trap Program. Over the last month Dick from Mountainland Rovers 4WD safaris has put out 53 sponsors traps, and although this has taken a large amount of man(and toddler) hours, Dick has still found time to check existing traps and collect 26 stoats and 1 cat and 1 ferret over the last 12 weeks.
